Abstract:The study evaluates physical activity, barriers to it and social connectedness changes in single-parent families who followed one year in a YMCA programme. The results show that the activity minutes reported per week decreased over the 12 months, but self-perceived activity over 12 monts increased in both parents and children. Family-related barriers that hindered following the programme included lack of time and affordability of opportunities that exist. A number of existing barriers to physical activity decreased over time. Parents after 12 months showed increase in social connectedness in form of e.g. visits with friends.
