| Abstract: | The UK market for all large kitchen appliances was badly hit in 1990 for the second year with sales down in all sectors. The cooker market saw a volume decline of 9 percent, with value falling by 6 percent in 1990. Gas models performed better than electric ones (sales down 4 and 15 percent, resp.). Sales of free-standing electric models fell by 10 percent (value down by 5 percent). Microwave sales were further damaged by food scares. The outlook for recovery in most sectors in 1992/1993 is better, leading to a lower volume market with increased emphasis on added-value. |
