Abstract:As accountants break away from their "off-the-field" position to become active team players, they need to acquire broader managerial and strategic skills. The accountant's ability to spot inconsistencies in numbers is a vital counterpoint to the MBA's strategic management thinking. People really need a break to learn new skills and to come back with an eagerness to work at a higher level. The need for people in the later stages of their careers to acquire specialist knowledge is going to be greater.
