Abstract:Life is becoming increasingly difficult for ex-offenders looking for work. Legislation rushed through before the general election is likely to make job-hunting harder, while funding problems have affected charities that were set up to assist them. The author assesses the impact of Police Act 1997 and charts the hardening of recruiters' attitudes to people with a criminal record. The article starts with the story of Michael Fraser who was convicted of receiving stolen goods twenty years ago.
