Abstract: | Is it ethical to do business with politically repressive regimes? The issue is becoming increasingly important. The increasing mobility of manufacturing of the global economy makes investment in emerging market countries increasingly attractive to western companies eager to take advantage of labor costs, lax pollution controls and generous tax incentives. Working conditions in many of these developing nations are miserable. Is it ethical to trade with countries that do not enforce western standards of working standards and pollution controls, or which otherwise show a lack of respect for the human rights of their people? |
