Abstract:Suspicion that outsourcing is a bandwagon headed for disaster is likely to be heightened by the results of new research from the University of Birmingham. Chris Londsdale and Andrew Cox outline their findings and explain why so many firms are outsourcing for the wrong reasons. Outsourcing is becoming a popular practice. When used effectively, it can enhance business performance by helping to reduce costs and raise quality. But there is growing evidence to suggest that many organizations are using it inappropriately, and that the intended benefits are not forthcoming.
