Abstract:One month ago, Sirius satellite radio launched its third satellite into space from the Soviet Union's once secret Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazahstan. As any space historian knows, Baikonur is where Sputnik was launched in 1957 and where Yuri Gagarin, the first human to orbit Earth, blasted off in 1961. Sirius is hoping for just a touch of the same transformative magic. This year the Manhattan company and its competitor, XM, based in Washington, D.C., plan to begin broadcasting 100 channels.
