Abstract:In this study the authors estimate a national energy model of fuel choice by both households and companies and assess how the climate change is likely to impact the demand for energy. Cross-sectional data is analyzed from the basis of multinomial discrete-continuous choice framework. According to the survey consumers in warmer locations use more energy and rely more heavily on electricity rather than other fuels. Climate change may reduce the use of other fuels for heating but increase electricity consumption on cooling. The future climate scenarios presented in this paper indicate that climate change will also affect welfare and cause remarkable annual damages.
