Abstract:Using the regional governance approach, this paper aims at discussing the importance of cross-sectoral (here as: c-s.) co-operations and the potential role of tourism organizations in an integrated location (here as: loc./locs.) management system. The coordination btw. participants and the development of economic dynamics by coordinated networks are important factors for determining the competitiveness of locs. Using the example of c-s. interaction with the brewing industry, performed is a qualitative and quantitative survey in Bavaria analyzing the role of a tourism organization in the loc. It is shown that the role of the tourism organization in c-s. interactions with other parties in a region with tourism not playing a major role is not strong, lacking the power to take a leading part in determining a region's attractiveness. There is a need to develop its expertise as a c-s. intermediary for an integrative loc. management process. The results reveal that the philosophy of c-s. thinking is not yet strongly developed in the Bavarian tourism organization.
