| Abstract: | Three strategies are discussed for realizing economic benefits from the multiproduct firm: vertical integration, related diversification, and unrelated diversification. Economic benefits of the strategies are identified and they are linked with the organizational control requirements necessary to realize these benefits. Organizational and environmental constraints that can inhibit the realization of these benefits are considered. The validity of such a framework, that is, its ability to explain observable phenomena in the real world, is also examined. |
