Abstract:The unfavourable consequences of a blind commitment to Taylorism are discussed. In fact, a recent study indicated that 78 % of American workers felt their managers merited a low level of trust. It is important for managers to consider how the presence of a more trustful climate might have a positive effect on the productivity of a company. The problem of how to build trust in difficult situations is examined. A case story is presented in which quality could be improved, lead time reduced, and inventory cut considerably by autonomous team work. Some other examples are set forth to show a lot of positive results of giving responsibility to each employee. An OD program for trust culture is sketched.
