Abstract:Increased international competition and the rapid pace of technological change are favoring organizations that are lean, fast, and flexible. 21st century firms will need to assure a secure, mobile, and well-trained work force That can respond to these challenges. the shape of a "dynamic network" organization is sketched. Other newly evolving organizational structures are mentioned. Management, workers, and unions will need to adapt and develop new mechanisms for dealing with these new structures. The new industrial relations system that network organizations will require is characterized. A new form of unionism can play a key role in helping meet the emerging needs.
