Abstract:Many people feel they have become more involved in business decisions, more strategically oriented, and more effective as business partners. But no one can ever know for sure that progress has occurred because many judgements of progress depend on retrospective feelings rather than empirical benchmarks. To date, the human resource profession does not have a national data base to benchmark progress in human resource practices. The rationale for a national benchmark for human resources is presented. Dimensions for establishing a national data base are reviewed.
