Abstract:This paper highlights the contributions of important streams of research in the leadership literature, proposes an integrative model, and distinguishes between leader and organizational effectiveness. The social conmplexity literature has highligted the importance of being able to look at oneself as performing multiple roles, and of explicitly and intuitively understanding political and affective relationships in organizations. Cognitive capacity and complexity research has highlighted the impact the ability to view events from multiple perspectives. The behavioral complexity literature has argued that leaders need to be able to perform a wide array of role behaviors and vary the performance depending on the demands of the situation. The Leaderplex model is a holistic perspective integrating all role behaviors required to deal dynamically.
