Abstract:The article presents issues of travel and tourism markets of Colombia. In brief, tourism's contribution to the Colombian economy is modest. During 1990 to 1996 it accounted for only 2.3 % of GDP and, since 1992, foreign exchange earnings from tourism have fallen relative to those for other sectors. The tourism industry, as for now, caters largely to the domestic market and international business travel. Domestic violence caused by guerrilla insurgency and the cocaine industry, continues to thwart the development of Colombia's tourism industry. Colombia has a well-developed air transport system and one of the densest networks of domestic airline services in Latin America. In addition, there has been a significant increase in international standard hotel capacity over the last ten yrs.
