Abstract:The giant US domestic market and New York infrastructure ensure the city's central place in the rapidly developing global market. New York is the center of the US economy, which itself gives the city an important international role. In addition, New York is also the center of the newly emerging 24-hour global securities market and the informational network connecting the world's financial centers. To preserve their competitive advantages the city's bankers invest in new technological systems (computers and telecommunications). A further speciality is research, making Wall Street analysts the leaders of international finance. Finally, the effectiveness of its settlement system assures New York's lead in security markets.
