Abstract: | Based on recent survey results, arguments are presented that on-the-job experience is not as important as formal training for those wishing to become human resource directors. A bachelor degree is necessary, preferably in business administration or the social sciences, and well-honed skills in communication and interpersonal relations and analysis. The survey was conducted using a sample of top human resource management professionals who are members of the Society for Human Resource Management and who work for the 350 largest employing firms in the USA. The data are compared to the results of several questions common to three previous studies. Some important results have not varied widely over time. |
