Abstract:Research in the area of strategic international human-resource management (SIHRM) is gaining increased prominence in the international management literature. The authors conducted a series of studies in four Mexican cities. They found that there was often considerable conflict between Mexican nationals and expatriate managers in the firms they studied. Mexican managers frequently stated that this conflict was due to the lack of Spanish- language skills on the part of expatriates and to the imposition of a North-American managerial style on Mexican subordinates.
