Abstract: | The analysis is structured in four sections. The first reviews Australia's experience as a home base for multinationals and their stock of FDI in a historical and comparative setting. Second, it reviews the model developed by Rugman and Verbeke to generate a number of propositions about the expected participation of Australia-based firms as multinationals. It also predicts the types of strategies that they would pursue as multinationals. A review of the numbers and strategies followed by Australian multinationals is presented in the third section, which broadly confirms the propositions of the model. |
