| Abstract: | One such class of employees who found themselves as "reluctant entrepreneurs" was the milk deliverymen of Northern Ireland who in 1984-85 were laid off as full-time employees of the major dairies there and enfranchised as self-employed businessmen to deliver milk. This article examines the enfranchisement of the milkmen of one of the major dairies involved - Dale Farm Dairies. It analyses both the theoretical and practical reasons for Dale Farm as well as the other dairies for taking this line of action and then examines the circumstances in which the milk roundsmen are now operating. |
