Abstract:The report analyses the French retail market for ice cream, yoghurt and chilled deserts. The French ice cream sector is generally considered to be underdeveloped. Demand for ice cream, previously restricted by its seasonality and its image as a children's product, has increased slowly in recent years underpinned by strong promotional activity, the entry of multinationals an internationalisation of consumer habits. But sitll France's per capita consumption of ice cream continues to remain lower than many of its EU partners. The yoghurt sector has been mature for several years. Chilled desserts have a lesser presence within the French diet given their higher fat content and high prices.
