Abstract: | Europe and the USA have different attitudes and approaches toward giving a say in company matters, especially those directly affecting them. The European co-determination approach refers to the creation of works councils and to worker participation company supervisory boards. Despite advantages of co-determination, especially the work councils, it is unlikely to catch on in the USA, due to the historical development of USA labor union roles and restrictions in USA labor laws. Particular attention is paid to the practice of co-determination in the Federal Republic of Germany. |
