| Abstract: | To improve the quality of their products and services, businesses adopt such concepts as total quality management and zero defects. Many use the classical quality-cost model Joseph Juran developed to monitor and explain the cost of quality. However, a radically different cost model based on the work of Genichi Taguchi, a Japanese electrical engineer, has emerged. Taguchi's quality lass function attaches a cost to variability when a product's actual measurements for a critical quality characteristic deviate from an optimal target value. |
