Abstract: | Accounting firms are not like most other businesses, claims Lawrence Weinbach. We are a profession, and that means we have obligations that go beyond the terms of a written contract. Any legitimate business can say that they serve the public, but our profession took on some important obligations 60 years ago, when Congress was about to require that all publicly held corporations be audited by government auditors. |
