| Abstract: | This article reports on an investigation of the changes in the role of the professional buyer that result from JIT implementation. The researchers interviewed 60 respondents. They found that higher product quality and supplier service levels as well as closer buyer/supplier relationships had developed. The role of the buyer was expanding into other functions, such as production and marketing, focusing less on transaction details and more on supplier relationships. Implications for practitioners, educators, and researchers are discussed. |
