| Abstract: | The postprivatization salary gains awarded to the CEOs of the British distribution companies were substantial. Conventional determinants of executive pay levels cannot explain them. The additional factors that could have affected compensation practices, are considered. The salary increases could provide a measure of the constraints on managerial pay faced by public firms. The environment in which pay decisions were made after privatization, are also considered. |
