Abstract:This article aims at accounting for both continuity and change in network (here as: n-w./n-ws.) structures and relationships (as: r-ship./r-ships). It is analyzed how a country's political approach (as: pol-aprs.) to institution building (as: i-bld.) shapes the reproduction of industrial n-ws. While firm-level actors may develop socio-economic r-ships., the authority structure of a n-w. emerges from the ways of certain firms aligning themselves with public institutions. This approach is empirically examined by analyzing the evolution of Czech industrial n-ws. during and after communism. The fragility, eventual stability, and subsequent changes in n-ws. come not from 'intra-network' factors, but rather from the governments' pol-aprs. toward i-bld.
