Abstract:The trade unions and the Labour Party recent policy statements announce an ambitious and radical programme for democratizing economic life. Labour's new strategy for economic management in industry and the enterprise is laid out in three documents, concerning economic planning, new partnership and full employment. The fulfillment of this political programme depends on the active support of the unions. The structures of trade union organization and the ideological conception that have formed them throw a great deal of doubt on the organizational competence and the motivation necessary for the complete success.
