Abstract:This paper aims at proposing the use of the tacit knowledge (here as: t-knw.)index (TKI) to assess the level of t-knw. within firms and its effect on firm performance (as: perf). The TKI measure includes both the degree of usage and the tacitness of the knowledge management (KM) method. A sample of 108 U.S. and Canadian firms using KM was explored to determine each firm's TKI. Regression and correlation were used to statistically analyze the innovation and financial (as: fin.) outcomes. There were significant relationships (as: r-ship.) found btw. a firm's level of TKI and the firm's innovation perf. Less clear is the r-ship. btw. a higher TKI and fin. measures.
