Abstract: | Applying the resource-based view, this study deals with family firms (henceforth as: f-firms) by exploring how a family specific resource ('reciprocal altruism') and a firm specific resource ('innovative capacity') contribute to f-firm performance. It is examined how the impact of these resources is moderated by strategic planning and technological opportunities. F-firms are suggested to be able to benefit from underlining the positive aspects of affinity and from developing innovative capacities. Among others, it is shown that not only do firm specific resources contribute to f-firm performance, but also that family relationships can be a source of competitive advantage for a f-firm. |
