Abstract:There is found a positive relationship between innovative activity and company survival (henceforth as: c-s.) by existing empirical studies. It is argued that this conclusion may be a result of a simple selection effect caused by the degree of uncertainty by the used innovation proxies (here as: inn-pxs.). Based on a panel of nearly 300,000 Australian companies, estimated is a piecewise-constant exponential hazard rate model to explore the relationship btw. innovation and c-s. As expected, it is found that the degree of uncertainty embodied in different inn-pxs. does shape the c-s. pattern.
