Abstract:The differences in the behavior of family businesses and its possible impacts on company performance have been studied, however, no conclusion has been established about the issue. This article examines family businesses focusing on only one variable: their international strategic configurations. A study is conducted where the strategic configurations of 65 world's top family firms are compared to the configurations of non-family firms. According to the findings, there appears to be no significant differences in the profitability of the international configurations of family and non-family firms. It is argued that in order to determine the performance consequences of family business behavior, other variables need to be studied alongside with the international dimension.
