| Abstract: | In the early years of Russia's mis-heralded transition from communism to a 'social' market economy, international institutions tried to put a brave face on failure by highlighting low official estimates of registered and surveyed unemployment. But there has been a welcome trend recently toward greater candour on this and other issues relating to Russia's post-communist depression and permanent economic crisis. |
