Abstract:This article examines the variation in youth unemployment (hereafter as: unemp.) using regression analysis and data from 27 OECD countries from the late 1990s. The results show that both adult unemp. and youth unemp. are high in regulated labour markets in which employers can not dismiss unsuitable workers. On the contrary, in liberal labour markets and in countries with good educational system youth unemp. is low.
