Abstract:Since the Great Exhibition of London (1851) approx. 75 Expos have been held worldwide. The Expos are regulated by the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) in Paris. Mostly Expos have a positive effect for the region's and the city's income, employment and infrastructure. The impact on science, technology and culture is very important, as well. However, Expos can generate an increase in prices, overcrowding and even environmental damage. Several Expos were even financial disasters. For many Expos, the post-event depression was certainly the case. Still Expos have opportunities for communication, development, investments, trade and tourism. The case study focuses on the successful Expo 1992 in Seville, Spain.
