Abstract:Btw. 1996 and 1998, a static level of income and expenditure inequality (hereafter as: ineql.) of Hungarian households was coupled with relatively low and decreasing mobility (here as: mobl). The relationship btw. ineql. and mobl. stabilised the relative positions of households. From 1993 to 1996 the growth of ineql. slowed. The results suggest that while there was a general and accelerating restructuring of the income and expenditure position of households in the early phase of transition, the process slowed down during the period under review.
