Abstract:Monsanto, an agricultural company, intends to implement some form of genetic use restriction technology (GURT) in order to restrict seed piracy in the global agricultural market. Many activist groups consider those intentions immoral because Terminator Technology (TT) threatens to infringe upon the rights of resource-poor farmers. That is because the new technology denies them to save the seed that is derived from their harvests. This paper argues that implementing TT is not violating basic rights as long as it takes the appropriate measures to minimize the negative effects that the implementation may cause to resource-poor farmers.
