Abstract: | South Africa has been striving to achieve and maintain sustained economic growth in various ways, e.g. through international tourism (henceforth as: int-trsm.). Using annual data from 1980 to 2005, real gross domestic product (GDP), int-trsm. earnings, real effective exchange rate and exports are analysed within a multivariate vector auto regressive model with the main focus on demonstrating the direction of causality btw. int-trsm. earnings and long-run economic growth of South Africa, by Granger causality analysis. There is shown a unidirectional causality running from int-trsm. earnings to real GDP, both in the short and in the long run. |
