Abstract:P.K. Edwards and G.S. Bain gave an explanation to the rise in trade union popularity on the bases of the Gallup Opinion Poll data. A more adequate interpretation of the Gallup data is presented, which offers more interesting insights concerning what has happened to the trade unions under Thatcher government. The explanation seems to lie in the fact that the public has been given the kind of unions they wanted: unities politically less involved, and with an ability to bargain collectively with employers.
