Abstract: | This paper aims to offer a critical examination of the notion of student support (henceforth as: s-spt.) in higher education in the UK. Compared are some of the key ways in which s-spt. is understood across the sector. Contrasted is a humanistic view with understandings (here as: u-stngs.) driven more by instrumental and therapeutic concerns. Also, examined are the possible risks and effects possibly associated with these differing u-stngs. In addition, consideration is afforded to international students studying at U.K. universities. Finally, identified is a number of questions worthy of institutional consideration. |
