Abstract:This article aims at studying the interactions existing btw. public research (here as: pbl-s.) and private research (as: prv-s.) in the French biotechnology sector. These interactions are observable at a double level. On the one hand, pbl-s. research can influence prv-s. research, and conversely. Researchers develop important relations of cooperation (as: co-op). These mutual influences are identified and their spatial dimension is measured. Using asymptotic least squares method, it is shown that spillovers can diffuse through co-op. in upstream and downstream phases of the innovation process. On the other hand, spillovers resulting from pbl-s. and prv-s. research, when measured by an external stock of knowledge, would be located, as far as they exist.
