Abstract:This article presents a new diagrammatical representation of the relationship btw. research and teaching (henceforth as: r & t). This tool was developed to support the dissemination of a new research strategy in a small, teaching-led higher education institution (here as: instn). Provided is a reflective account of the use of the diagram with responses to it, both within and beyond the instn. It is proposed that the 'vagueness' of a visual representation can aid reflection on the multiple ways in which r & t. may connect, encouraging individuals to construct their own understanding of the nexus. In addition, the institutional definition of research is relevant to the nature of that instn., being flexible enough to allow for variation within it.
