Abstract:This paper presents a model of job search, in which individuals can determine their labor supply optimally, given the wage rate. The model has the reservation wage property. Optimal labor supply is accounted for in the calculation of the reservation wage. The stochastic specification of the model includes random preferences as well as unobserved heterogeneity in the arrival rate which includes the reservation wage to be random as well. Parameter estimates of the job offer arival rate show that age has a negative effect on the job offer arrival rate. Individuals with non-vocational training have a lower change of getting a job offer than other individuals.
