| Abstract: | The results of Italian studies of the Casa Integrazione Guadagni, a fund that provides benefits to workers in big firms who are temporarily laid off but not actually dismissed, are subjected to theories about labour market segmentation, job search, and perfectly informed actor's logic. Since none of these theories accounts for observations, cultural and biographical variables are taken into consideration. Based on the examination of these variables different mobility strategies are described and analyzed. The results of this study lead us to see work as something other than a mere merchandise. |
