Abstract:The ethical character of business transactions depends not on the outcome, but on whether the actor behaved according to the rules that ensure such environmental characteristics as a "level playing field", equal access to market intelligence, non-monopolistic competition etc. The codes of ethics are useful enough for spelling out behavioral norms for the employees working within the corporations. But what is missing is a code of ethical standards that would apply to the behaviour of corporate senior management itself. "Boardroom ethics", a subset of corporate ethics, involves the behaviour of executives as individuals in the network of relationships and responsibilities.
