Abstract: | Phone frenzy in the developing world is charging the telecom industry. Chile may be the most happening telecom market in the world right now. Last November, in an effort to jump-start its woefully inadequate phone system, the government threw long-distance and international calling markets open to competition and eliminated rate regulations. Problem is, nobody is making much money. The fre-for-all pushed international calling charges as low as a penny a minute in December. |
