Abstract:The American way to restructure or streamline a company has typically involved massive layoffs. Is this necessary? A study of companies suggests that managers rethink traditional responses to competitive pressures. Job security policy has some advantages. Benefits of job security may be viewed as enhancing a firm,s competitiveness in that more flexible, loyal, and motivated employees are more potent contributors to a firm's productivity. The following hypothesis was formulated: there is no difference in financial performance between companies that practice job security and companies that do not.
