| Abstract: | Significant changes are pointed out in the market shares of insurance companies over the last years and determinants of these changes are analyzed. It is concluded that changes in market share are the effect of differences in company efficiency. Two types of efficiency are distinguished: investment efficiency (portfolio efficiency) and cost efficiency. It is found that efficiency increases with company size but is independent of legal form. Deregulation of pricing by insurance companies is opposed to. |
