Abstract:Using Reference Models for Developing Complex Mass Information Systems With the continuing evolution of the WWW, experience has shown that there is a growing need for industry oriented reference models of mass information systems. Due to a constantly changing environment as well as a lack of willingness to modify existing organizational structures and decision models, the full economic potential of mass IS has not been realized now. A reference model as a normative concept represents an abstraction of a typical company, its functional units, or its (mass) information systems and is intended to facilitate the exploitation of this potential. In the case of mass IS, every reference model has to integrate a conceptual data and navigational model. It has to be applicable to structuredand non structured information
