Abstract:Representing production activities through state variables from system theory allows an exact representation of these activities. An analysis based upon system theory has two advantages over traditional concepts used in production theory: 1. The influence of control variables (system inputs) on the result of the production process (system outputs) can be exactly determined. With this it is possible to answer the question of optimal process control while maximizing profits. 2.The traditional quantitative representation of goods can be expanded to include the qualitative characteristics of inputs and outputs, as well as the state of the production machinery (Gutenberg's z-situation), assuming these characteristics have at least interval scaled level (original in German).
